Privacy notice

This site is kept by private individuals in Mpumalanga for readers interested in hiring and briefly using cars in the Lowveld. It is not a company and it does not trade. This notice explains, in the framework of South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, what little personal information passes through the site, why, and for how long it is kept.

Last changed 15 October 2026

Who is responsible

The responsible party is the private individuals who keep this site. There is no company behind it, no legal entity, no shareholders and nobody employed to run it. Correspondence about this notice should go to the postal address and telephone number given on the enquiries page, which is the only contact route the site offers.

Because the site is run privately and at a small scale, there is no dedicated information officer in the corporate sense. The same people who write the pages handle the enquiries and the few records that result from them, and they are the people who will answer a question about this notice.

What is collected

Only what you type into the enquiry form: a name, a telephone number, a reply address, a subject line and the message itself, including whatever route and date detail you choose to include. Nothing is gathered in the background. There is no analytics script, no advertising pixel, no social widget and no third-party code of any kind on these pages.

The web server that serves the pages keeps a short technical log in the ordinary way, as every web server does, containing the address of the requesting device, the page requested and the time. Those logs exist for security and fault-finding and are overwritten in the normal rotation.

Why it is used

Enquiry details are used to answer the enquiry and for nothing else. If you ask us to read a hire agreement, we read it and reply to you. If you ask about gate times and a gravel clause, we answer that. The lawful basis is your own request, given when you tick the consent box, and that consent can be withdrawn at any time by telling us so.

We do not build a mailing list, we do not send newsletters, and we do not contact readers again about unrelated matters. An enquiry is a conversation with an end, not an entry on a database to be used later.

How long it is kept

Enquiry correspondence is deleted within twelve months of the last message in the exchange, and usually a good deal sooner once the trip in question has happened and the questions are closed. Documents you send us, such as a hire quote or an agreement, are deleted as soon as the reply has gone and are never kept as examples.

If you would like your correspondence removed before the twelve months are up, say so and it will be deleted, along with any attachments, and you will be told when that has been done.

Who else sees it

Nobody. The details you send are not sold, rented, shared, syndicated or passed to a hire company, a lodge, a showroom or anyone else. There is no commercial relationship on this side of the site that would give anybody a reason to want them.

The only unavoidable exceptions are the hosting provider, whose servers carry the site and the mail, and a lawful request from a competent authority. Neither is a route by which your details are used for marketing.

Your rights under the Act

You may ask what personal information about you is held, ask for it to be corrected if it is wrong, ask for it to be deleted, object to its use, and withdraw the consent you gave when you sent the form. Requests are answered as quickly as a privately run site reasonably can, and in practice within a few working days.

If you are not satisfied with how a request has been handled, you may take the matter to the national regulator responsible for information protection in South Africa. You do not need our permission to do so and we will not obstruct it.

Children and sensitive details

The site is written for adult drivers and we have no interest in information about children. Please do not include a child's details in an enquiry. If you are asking about fitting a child's seat, describe the seat and the age bracket rather than naming anybody.

Equally, do not send identity numbers, licence numbers, card details or copies of documents carrying them. We never need them to answer a question, and if such a thing arrives it is deleted on sight and the reply will say so.

Changes to this notice

If the way the site handles enquiries changes, this page changes with it and the live date shown at the foot of the page will move. There is no archive of previous versions, because the practice described here has been the same since the site began: collect little, use it once, delete it.

Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the notice as it then reads. If a change ever made you uncomfortable, the remedy is simple: do not send the form, and phone the desk instead.
