Cookie notice
This is the shortest notice on the site because there is very little to describe. There are no analytics, no advertising, no trackers and no third-party scripts on these pages. What the site does keep is one small value in your own browser, and this page explains exactly what it is for.

The one value
When you dismiss the notice bar at the foot of the page, the site writes a single entry into your browser's local storage recording that you have done so. That is the entire mechanism. The next time you open a page, the bar stays closed because that entry is there.
The value holds nothing about you. It is not an identifier, it cannot be read by another site, it is not sent to the server with your page requests, and it tells us nothing, because nothing about it ever reaches us.
What local storage is
Local storage is a small space your browser sets aside for each site to remember simple settings on your own device. Unlike a traditional cookie, its contents are not attached to every request the browser makes, which is why a preference kept this way is quieter than a cookie doing the same job.
It lives on the device you are reading on. Open the site on a different phone or a different browser and the bar will appear once more, because that device has its own empty storage space.
What we do not use
No visitor analytics of any kind, which means we genuinely do not know how many people read any page here. No advertising network, no remarketing, no conversion pixels, no heat maps, no session recording, no embedded video player that sets its own cookies, and no social sharing buttons that phone home.
That choice has a cost. We write without knowing which briefs are read and which are ignored, which occasionally means writing something nobody needs. We prefer that to the alternative.
Clearing it
Clearing site data in your browser settings removes the value and the bar returns on your next visit. Browsing in a private window has the same effect each time you close it, since private windows discard storage when they end.
You can also decline the bar outright, in which case nothing is written at all. The only consequence is that the bar will greet you again on every page, which is mildly irritating and entirely your right.
The enquiry form
The form keeps nothing in your browser. It does not remember what you typed, it does not pre-fill a name on a later visit, and if you navigate away halfway through, the text is gone. That is deliberate: a shared computer at a guesthouse should not hand the next reader your travel dates.
What you send is handled as described in the privacy notice, used only to reply, and deleted within twelve months.
Fonts, images and hosting
Typefaces and images are served from the same place as the pages themselves, so no outside provider learns that you visited. Nothing on these pages is loaded from a third-party network on your behalf.
The hosting provider sees the ordinary technical request information that any web server sees, and keeps it briefly for security and fault-finding, as described in the privacy notice.
If this changes
Should the site ever need a second stored value, for example to remember a text size preference, this page will describe it before it is used, and the live date at the foot of the page will show when the wording changed.
There will be no analytics and no advertising. That is a settled position rather than a current state of affairs, and it is one of the few promises this site is willing to make.
